Dog-Friendly Beaches in Andalusia
Andalusia is the autonomous community with the most kilometers of coastline and, therefore, with the most beaches, so it's not surprising that this summer 2023, we find up to 16 dog-friendly beaches in this community.
However, which ones are the best?
According to Google user reviews that have rated each beach, these are the best dog-friendly beaches by province, considering those with a score of 3.5 out of 5 or higher as the best.
All of them must comply with common rules:
- Always carry the dog's documentation.
- Watch them at all times for their safety and for that of other dogs or people.
- Pick up droppings.
- Keep very nervous dogs, or those not sociable with other dogs, on a leash to avoid uncomfortable situations.
Dog-Friendly Beaches in Almería
In Almería, we find El Bobar and La Rana beaches, which are not well-rated by users due to being uncomfortable and dirty.
Dog-Friendly Beaches in Cadiz
- Playa de la Concha (El Rinconcillo): rated 4.1, it is a fine sandy beach with a fenced-off area for dogs, where PPP (Potentially Dangerous Dogs) must be leashed and muzzled.
There is another dog-friendly beach, Camposoto beach, which is very poorly rated by users because dogs must be leashed at all times, and there is a 1.5 km boardwalk to reach it.
Dog-Friendly Beaches in Granada
There are two dog-friendly beaches: Playa del Cable, which has a fenced-off area but does not get a high score because there are fishermen in the area, and there have been several incidents of dogs with hooks.
On the other hand, La Veintiuna dog beach has a very low rating due to the danger of stones and rocks that often damage dogs' paw pads.
Dog-Friendly Beaches in Huelva
- Playa del Espigón (Huelva): a pristine sandy beach with a fenced-off area for dogs. Being pristine, it has no services, so it depends on the civic-mindedness of each owner. Located within a biosphere reserve.
Other dog-friendly beaches are Playa de la Gola or Playa de la Ría in Punta Umbría, with very low ratings, described as muddy, and Ayamonte dog beach, described as very dangerous due to the presence of glass and dirt.
Dog-Friendly Beaches in Malaga
- Playa canina Torre del Mar (Málaga): with a 4.4 rating, it becomes the best-rated, thanks to being not only a fine sandy beach but also having a dog park and a dog waste station, as well as other ideal services for your dog. PPP dogs and dogs over 20 kg must wear a muzzle.
- Playa de El Pinillo (Marbella): Rated 4.2, this is a sandy beach with a designated area for dogs, water fountains, and a shower for them. Not suitable for human bathing.
- Playa del Castillo (Fuengirola): With a 4.1, it becomes one of the best rated thanks to its sandy expanse. It does not allow the entry of dogs classified as PPP, and those over 20 kilos must always wear a muzzle.
- Playa de la Araña or Arroyo Totalán (Málaga): With a 4.2 rating, it is a sandy beach with cleaning service, surveillance, parking, and restaurants. There are no time restrictions, and it is open all year round. PPP dogs have access to the beach always with a muzzle.
- Playa Ventura de Mar (Marbella): With a 3.6 rating, this sandy and rocky beach is very wide but has no services for dogs. Not suitable for human bathing.
- Playa canina de Torrox: With a 3.3, it is a beach exclusively for dogs, made of pebbles, without services for dogs, somewhat uncomfortable but where they enjoy themselves greatly.
Piedra Paloma dog beach in Casares falls outside of good ratings. Benalcan beach in Benalmádena, which was exclusively for dogs, has been closed due to neighbor complaints.
Dog-Friendly Beaches in Asturias
In Asturias, we can find up to 5 beaches where you can go with your dog. Let's see the best ones:
- Playa del Sablón: With a 4.7, it is considered one of the best dog-friendly beaches in Spain. An extensive sandy area with a delimited zone for dogs and water fountains for hydration.
- Playa de Quintana y Campiecho (Valdés): With a 4.4, it is a pebble beach with some waves.
- Playa del Rinconín (Gijón): rated 4.3 for its fine sand.
- Playa canina de Cambaredo: rated 3.7, it is located in a beautiful natural area but it is stony.
Cala Saliencia (Cudillero) falls outside of the good ratings; although it is beautiful, access is very uncomfortable for dogs, according to users.
Dog-Friendly Beaches in Cantabria
We can find 8 beaches on the Cantabrian coast where you can go with your dog. And these are the best ones:
- Muelle Oriñón (Castro Urdiales): with a rating of 4.4, it is a fine sandy beach where dogs will enjoy themselves among small boats.
- Playa El Puntal (Somo): 4.7. It is a fine sandy beach, with the drawback that if the tide is very low, you may not find water.
- Playa Arcisero (Castro Urdiales): 3.5 rating, on the borderline as it is a difficult to access and uncomfortable beach.
- Cala Cargadero Mioño (Castro Urdiales): a 4.4 rating, a small, rocky beach (Google says "temporarily closed", check before you go).
Other beaches that do not receive good ratings are Playa de la Maza (San Vicente de la Barquera) for being small and having numerous complaints about glass, Playa La Riberuca (Suances) for being very dirty, Arenal del Jortín (Bezana) for being very small and having a lot of algae, and Playa de Helgueras (Noja) which, although beautiful, is not well-rated because reaching it requires a 2 km walk.
Dog-Friendly Beaches in Catalonia
In Catalonia, we can find no less than 20 dog-friendly beaches, making it the autonomous community with the most beaches enabled for our furry friends.
Dog-Friendly Beaches in Barcelona
In the province of Barcelona, there are 9 dog-friendly beaches.
- Pineda de Mar Beach (Pineda de Mar): With a rating of 4.4, it stands out as the best beach for its cleanliness, crystal-clear waters, sand, and services.
- Les Salines Beach (Cubelles): 4.3 for its cleanliness, calm waters, and fine sand.
- La Conca Beach (Malgrat de Mar): 4.5 for its spacious dog area, fine sand, calm and crystal-clear waters, and services.
- Patins a Vela Beach (Badalona): 4.6. A fine sand beach, fenced and well-equipped.
- Llevant Beach (Barcelona): 4.2. A sandy beach, with a designated area for dogs. It is one of the best-equipped beaches in Spain, although it often has capacity issues.
- Poniente Beach (Mataró): 4.1. A fine sand beach, designated, with calm waters.
- La Picordia Beach "Primera Platja" (Arenys de Mar): Although it has a rating of 4.4, we have placed it last because it only allows entry to dogs registered in the town.
Cala Vallcarca (Sitges) is excluded from the evaluation due to being very dirty, and El Masnou beach (Montgrat - Masnou) due to difficult access over rocks.
Dog-friendly beaches in Girona
In Girona, we find what was the first dog-friendly beach in Spain.
- La Rubina Beach (Empúria Brava): 4.5. Highly rated by users for being located in a natural park, in a spacious designated area, with fine sand and crystal-clear waters.
- Dels Griells Beach (Estartit): 4.6. A designated beach with fine sand and crystal-clear waters.
- Rec del Molí Beach (L’Escala): 4.2. Well-rated for being spacious and having fine sand. Slightly murky waters.
- Les Barques Beach (Colera): 4.3. A sand and gravel beach that is part of a natural park.
- Sant Jordi Beach (Llançà): 4.4. A sand and gravel beach ideal for those seeking tranquility and nature.
- Port de la Ribera Beach (Port de la Selva): 4.5. With a designated area for dogs, it is a sandy and stony beach with calm waters.
- Port de la Vall Beach (Port de la Selva): 4.3. Very similar to the previous one (they are only a few kilometers apart).
Dog-friendly beaches in Tarragona
- La Platjola Beach (Alcanar): With a 4.9 rating, it stands as one of the best in Catalonia, for being unspoiled, wild, and peaceful.
- Bassa de l’Arena Beach (Riumar): With a 4.4 rating, this beach is located at the mouth of the Ebro Delta, with very fine sand, plenty of space, and surrounded by nature.
- Punta del Riu Beach (Mont-Roig): 4.0, a fine sand beach but with large stones in the water.
Cala Cementiri and Cala Bon Caponet (Ametlla de Mar) are excluded from the evaluation, both for being uncomfortable, small, and full of algae.

18 dog-friendly beaches are available for you and your furry friend along the Valencian coast.
Dog-Friendly Beaches in Alicante
In Alicante, we find the highest number of dog-friendly beaches:
- Cala Mosca (Orihuela): 4.3. Sand and rock beach in a natural setting.
- Mar y Montaña Beach (Altea): 4.0. Easily accessible beach, calm and clean waters, and pebble.
- Doggy Beach (Alicante): 4. Sandy and pebble beach with no services.
- La Caleta dels Gossets (Santa Pola): 3.8. Although it was once one of the best-rated for dogs due to its fine sand, recent storms have turned it into a rocky cove full of algae. Still, the city council strives to keep it clean, making it quite recommendable.
- El Xarco Beach (Villajoiosa): 3.9. Users are happy with the beach but rate it lower due to the difficulty of finding it and its difficult access.
Punta del Riu Sec beach and Barranc beach (Campello) are excluded from the evaluation due to being dangerous because of the number of stones, and Cala Rocío del Mar (Torrevieja) for being very uncomfortable for dogs.
Dog-Friendly Beaches in Castellón
With 7 dog-friendly beaches in Castellón, these are the best:
- La Renegà Beach (Oropesa de Mar): 4.2. A cove of coarse sand in a charming natural setting with crystal-clear waters.
- Les Llanetes Beach (Vinarós): 4.2. A small charming cove with beach and gravel, with shower services and fountains for dogs.
- El Barranquet Beach (Benicarló): 3.6. Sandy, with shade, showers, and fountains. Very clean and quiet.
- Boca del Riu Beach (Vinarós): 4. A wide pebble beach with no time restrictions.
- Belcaire Beach (Moncófar): 4.1. In addition to being rated for its sand and stones, it has a shower.
Aiguaoliva Beach (Vinarós) is excluded from the evaluations for being full of stones that harm dogs' paws, as is also the case with l’Estany beach in Alcossebre.
Dog-Friendly Beaches in Valencia
In Valencia, we only find 3 dog-friendly beaches.
- Alboraya Beach (Valencia): 4. A designated beach with fine sand and calm waters.
- La Torreta Dog Beach (el Puig): 3.8. Although it deserves a higher score, the requirement to keep dogs on a leash at all times lowers the rating.
- Pinedo Dog Beach (Valencia): 4.4. Although it deserves first place because it is a wide beach with fine sand and crystal-clear waters, the rule of keeping dogs leashed at all times significantly lowers the rating.

In the province of Galicia, you can find 11 dog-friendly beaches, and here we will list the best ones.
Dog-Friendly Beaches in A Coruña
In A Coruña, there are 3 beaches designated for dogs.
- Cabañas Dog Beach (Magdalena Beach): 4.5. Beach with shade, fine sand, and calm waters. A natural paradise.
- El Arenal Beach (Pobra do Caramiñal): 4.5. Although it is a fine sand beach, being an area with various shellfish populations, there are remains of them that pose a danger to dogs' paws (clam shells, mussels, etc.)
Ares beach is excluded from the evaluation, as it is described as a muddy area.
Dog-Friendly Beaches in Lugo
In Lugo, we find only one beach: Punta Corveira, in Barreiros, a small, highly-rated sandy beach, with the drawback of the tide. When the tide is high, the space is much more reduced.
Dog-Friendly Beaches in Pontevedra
Pontevedra is where we find the highest number of dog-friendly beaches.
- O Espinho and O Portinho Beach (O Grove): 4.4. Wonderful fine sand beaches located next to each other.
- Foz and Da Calzoa Beaches (Vigo): 4.3. Wide beaches with fine sand, crystal clear and clean waters separated by a rock.
- A Cunchina Beach (Cangas): 4.6. Fine sand beach with calm waters.
Cesantes beach (Redondela) is excluded from the rating due to its dirtiness, Chapela beach because it depends on low tide (Redondela), and O Castelete beach (Vilagracía de Aurosa) due to its stoniness and dirtiness.
Dog-friendly beaches in the Balearic Islands
Dog-friendly beaches in Ibiza
On the island of Ibiza, there are 4 exclusive dog-friendly beaches.
Punta des Faralló Dog Beach (Santa Eulària des Riu). 3.8. Pristine cove with pebbles and sand. Calm and crystal-clear waters. Access is somewhat difficult.
- Punta des Nedadors Dog Beach (Santa Eulària des Riu). 1. (***Update May 2025, has dropped from 3.5 to 1) Borderline rating because it's an algae-covered beach, which is very comfortable for dogs, crystal-clear waters but a rocky bottom.
- Talamanca Dog Beach (Eivissa). 3.5. Small Posidonia beach. Crystal-clear waters but rocky bottom.
Es Viver dog beach (Figueretes) is excluded from the rating. According to users, it is often dirty and poses a danger due to hooks found there. However, you should know that all beaches in the municipality of Santa Eulària des Riu have free access for all dogs from November to March.
We're talking about more than 20 beaches!
They can be off-leash, throughout the beach and under the constant supervision of the owner who must pick up droppings, carry the dog's documentation, and have their vaccination record up to date. Muzzle for dangerous dogs.

- Es Carnatge Beach (Palma de Mallorca): 4. Rocky coves area but spacious. Very clean.
- Cala Blanca (Andratx): 4.2. Spectacular cove with large pebbles in a pristine and difficult-to-access area.
- Cala dels Gats, in Costa de la Calma (Calvià): 3.7. A very idyllic cove, with stones and lots of algae, hence the low rating.
Punta des Marroig, in Palmanova (Calvià), is excluded from the rating for being very uncomfortable due to the number of stones.
Dog-friendly beaches in Menorca
In Menorca, we find Cala Binigaus which, although beautiful, has restricted hours and dogs must be on a leash (during high season, from 7 PM to 9 AM). The rest of the year there are no restricted hours. We also find Cala Fustam, a beautiful cove but excluded from the rating due to its very difficult access.
Dog-friendly beaches in the Canary Islands
There are 8 dog-friendly beaches on these wonderful islands.
Dog-friendly beaches in Gran Canaria
There are three dog-friendly beaches in Gran Canaria.
In Gran Canaria, we find the beaches of Los Tres Peos and Los Cuervitos (Agüimes), which are next to each other, separated by rocks. They are excluded from the rating for being dangerous due to strong waves and because dogs must always be on a leash.
The same applies to Bocabarranco Beach in Las Palmas: dogs must be on a leash at all times, and there are usually strong waves.
Dog-friendly beaches in Tenerife
There are three dog-friendly beaches in Tenerife:
- El Cabezo Dog Beach (Güimar): 4.2. Wide, delimited black sand beach, very clean, with moderate waves.
- El Confital or El Horno Beach (Granadilla de Abona): 4.5. Spectacular rock and sand beach located in a natural landscape.
- El Callao/Las Bajas Beach (Arona): 4.3. Rocky beach, not very crowded, in a natural setting.
Dog-friendly beaches in Lanzarote
In Lanzarote, you can visit the following dog-friendly beaches:
- La Guacimeta Beach (San Bartolomé): 4.4. Delimited sand area with crystal clear and very spacious waters.
- Las Coloradas Beach (Yaiza): 4. Small beach of volcanic sand and crystal clear waters.
Dog-friendly beaches in Murcia
In Murcia, you have 7 dog-friendly beaches at your disposal.
- Las Moreras Dog Beach (Murcia): 4.3. Sand and stone beach notable for its spaciousness and cleanliness.
- La Calera Beach (Cartagena): 4.2. Beach with comfortable stones and crystal-clear, calm waters with a sandy bottom.
- Las Salinas Dog Beach, in Los Alcázares (Mar Menor): 3.8. Delimited fine sand beach with calm waters.
Gachero beach (Murcia) is excluded from the rating for being very stony and uncomfortable for humans and dogs, as is Cobaticas beach, which shares the discomfort of being stony and somewhat dirty.
Added to these are Cañada del Negro beach (Águilas) and Cala Mijo (Águilas) for being dangerous (strong waves).
