A client and friend of TDL, Isa, sent us this story that we couldn't help but share. She wrote to us a few weeks ago to thank us, and seeing what she had experienced with Milka, her dog, we asked her to tell her story in more detail. What follows is her story, in her own words.

The problem started in mid-December
"Milka started scratching a lot, especially on the top of her head, her muzzle, and around her eyes. From scratching so much, she developed bald spots and her skin looked very irritated."
What started as occasional itching became a daily problem. "She would stop to scratch even in the street. Sometimes she seemed a little down." Isa's concern grew. "I was quite worried because I didn't know what could be happening to her."
Milka's visit to the vet
As a good human mom to Milka, Isa took her to the vet. The first response was deworming. A week later, seeing no improvement, they returned and she was given an antihistamine.
"After seeing that she wasn't getting better, we took her to the vet and they gave her deworming pills, and a week later we went back and they gave her an antihistamine."
But the scratching remained intense, the bald spots were still there, and the skin remained irritated.
And then an email arrived in her inbox
"And then I saw an email that had arrived from your brand, and it just happened to be advertising the Skin & Coat supplement. I didn't think twice and ordered it; there was nothing to lose by trying."

Some reflections from Milka's story
Isa's experience with Milka reminds us of some important things worth keeping in mind when a dog starts having skin and coat problems:
Compulsive scratching is not normal. If your dog scratches constantly, to the point of developing bald spots or irritated skin, it's not "a habit" or "a tic." It's a sign that something is happening, and it's worth investigating.
Veterinary consultation is always the first step. Isa did the right thing: she took Milka to the vet. There are many possible causes behind such a condition (parasites, environmental allergies, food allergies, hormonal problems, secondary infections) and they need to be professionally ruled out.
Skin and coat reflect what's happening inside. Hair and skin are tissues with very high nutritional demands. When essential fatty acids, biotin, zinc, sulfur amino acids, or antioxidants are lacking, the first places where it shows are the quality of the coat and the condition of the skin.
